We decided to make a full size showcase piece that would really challenge us. We are big movie fans and chose to make a themed hand carved throne. We thought about which thrones had impressed us and agreed King Theoden’s throne from Lord of the Rings, Two Towers, was a good example. Just for fun we wrote to Weta Workshops and asked them for some ideas to inspire us and low and behold they sent us some concept art! Big up Weta!

We chose a chair design from Helm’s Deep that appears in a scene with King Theoden. We adapted the lion head design into horse heads to represent the Horse Lords and added carvings such as the rune text under the seat which says Hammerhand. We added carvings to the sides and back rest and a secret design to the back of the headboard.

We hope you love the result. It is made from European Oak, built using mortise and tenon joints and secured with glue and square hand carved dowels.
